About us:
Bat House Whips in a small family business based in Minnesota that takes great pride in the quality of products we produce. We always strive for excellent Customer Service. We started making whips several years ago for our recreational use. After trial and error and lots of feedback from whip cracking pros in the local community and beyond we are producing quality nylon whips. This has become something that we truly love and we take great pride in every whip we make.
The bulk of our Business is making custom nylon single tail whips but we have expanded our product lines a bit and developed some very unique products. In addition to making whips we also give lessons on basic cracking and play techniques locally. We love to try new things and are always willing to custom design unique items based on customer specifications such as cos-play items.
Our business started out primarily through word of mouth selling whips locally but at the urging of happy customers we moved into selling online. So here we are! We have now been selling whips worldwide. We can be found online here or on Instagram (BatHouseWhips). Check us out there for our latest projects and pictures of our work. We still do lots of sales in person too. If you are in Minnesota we are often at local whip or marketplace events in the central Minnesota area but in the last year have been invited to out of state events sate well.
Our Whips:
We primarily work with nylon at this time. Nylon is a great material for whips as you get very similar performance to leather but it does not require the maintenance and the break in period that leather whips do and it is normally much more affordable.
Our methods have changed significantly over the years and we are always learning and improving our techniques. Over the years we have experimented with many different materials to bind and bolster our whips. We no longer use any electrical tape in our whips. In the past we used it in very limited amounts but have moved to better methods. We have made several changes to our binding and construction methods as well that have improved the weight and performance of our whips, making them better than ever.
Most of our full sized whips have two plaited bellies in addition to the overlay giving you three layers of plaiting over a shot loaded core. This gives your whip a nice taper and smoother flow. We use high quality paracord and nylon sinew. We usually use leather in the knot foundations but we do have vegan options if you request it. We also prefer to wax our own whips now and offer it as an option for the whips we sell.
Our Chainmail:
We also sell chainmail. My husband has been making steel chainmail for several years and has taught others as well. His work ranges from small items like bikinis, and small lamp shades to big projects like hoods and full body armor. He does not make jewelry pieces. We will start posting examples of work for custom orders soon. Please email us for information and pricing if you are interested in our chainmail.
